If you’re like 99% of the population, your life revolves around that next cup of coffee. It’s what wakes you up in the morning and it’ll make sure that you don’t cut someone’s head off when they yell at you or accidentally knock over the stack of papers that you just lugged up two flights of stairs without incident.
If you’re like that same 99%, though, that cup of coffee has to be a good one in order to make the daily trials worth it. Here are the general tips to making sure that each cup that you brew is fantastic:
- Choose fresh coffee beans
- Keep your coffee in a safe, dry space
- Grind your own beans
- Use fresh water
Choose fresh coffee beans
This is step one. You can’t have great coffee without great beans to go with it. Make sure that you buy the freshest coffee beans that you can find, be them from a wholesale store or from a private provider. The fresher the bean, the better the cup of coffee is going to be. Expired coffee beans should be thrown out. They are dangerous and will taste horrible.
Keep your coffee in a safe, dry space
As previously mentioned, coffee can go bad. Make sure you store it in an airtight container and that it stays in a dry, cool location. If the beans get wet, make sure you dry them off really well and don’t try to grind them right away.
If the can of beans is completely saturated, it’s best just to start a fresh batch. A lot of the flavour and consistency will have drained out in the water. Be careful to make sure that the beans smell okay before using them.
Grind your own beans
This is a critical part of coffee drinking. You can buy ground coffee which, even if it’s the expensive kind that makes you cringe at the checkout, will give you an okay taste, but it won’t be the best. Beans that are ground at home are the best. You can get coffee machines that have grinders built in if you aren’t interested in investing in a coffee grinder.
A lot of the flavour and scent is released when you grind them, so grinding them too far in advance will lose the sharpness that you love. That being said, you can always grind them up a the beginning of the week if you’re looking for a way to not have to use the extra time every day.
Use fresh water
This might be obvious, but it’s important. Don’t used bottled water or tap water, use filtered water that is fresh and hasn’t been standing in the coffee maker for a couple of hours or days. This will complete the fresh, crisp flavour that you are looking for.
A good cup of coffee can be enough to change your day for the better, so follow these tips and you’ll find that your day is starting out on the best possible foot. Nothing will be able to ruin your mood when you know that glorious delicious cup is waiting for you. What are you waiting for?
